Get a new batteries for free iPhone 5...
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 25:
In a rare admission of manufacturing defect with its much-vaunted mobile devices, Apple Inc is offering free battery replacements for iPhone 5 smartphones which some consumers have complained were discharging too fast.
In a statement at its website, Apple said it ” has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.
“The affected iPhone 5 devices were sold between September 2012 and January 2013 and fall within a limited serial number range.
“If your iPhone 5 is experiencing these symptoms and meets the eligibility requirements, Apple will replace your iPhone 5 battery, free of charge.”
Apple began the replacement process on Friday in the US and China and will extend the replacement service to the rest of this world this Friday, Aug 29.
To check if a device qualifies for this battery replacement, one would need to go to https://ssl.apple.com/my/support/iphone5-battery/.
The US firm added that the worldwide exercise doesn’t extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 5.
“The programme covers affected iPhone 5 batteries for two years after the first retail sale of the unit or until March 1, 2015, whichever provides longer coverage.
” If you believe your iPhone 5 was affected by this issue, and you paid to replace your battery, you can contact Apple about a refund.”
